However we have lived our life, whatever mistakes we have made, when the time comes for us to leave this earth, each one of us can at least try to do so in a spirit of peace and harmony, reconciled with all beings, and particularly with God, our heavenly father. In the Christian religion, this is the meaning of extreme unction. Extreme unction, the sacrament a priest administers to the dying, is based on true knowledge: a person’s inner state during their last moments determines the path they will follow in the next world. It also plays an important role in their next incarnation and therefore their long-term future. The extreme unction is simply a way of creating the most favourable conditions for a Christian to leave the earth, but like all sacraments, the ritual itself is not absolutely essential. It is meant to help the faithful who receive it, but we can all live our last moments in the light without receiving this sacrament.
Qualunque genere di vita abbia condotto e quali che siano i suoi errori, quando arriva il momento di lasciare la terra, ciascuno può almeno sforzarsi di partire in uno stato d'animo di pace, di armonia e di riconciliazione con tutti gli esseri, e in particolare con Dio, il suo Padre celeste. Nella religione cristiana, tale è il senso dell’estrema unzione. L’estrema unzione, il sacramento che il sacerdote somministra al morente, è fondata su un vero sapere: lo stato interiore in cui un essere umano vive i suoi ultimi momenti determina la via che questi seguirà nell’altro mondo, e riveste anche un ruolo importante per la sua prossima incarnazione, dunque per il suo lontano futuro. L’estrema unzione è una possibilità data al cristiano di lasciare la terra nelle migliori condizioni; ma, come tutti i sacramenti, non è indispensabile in quanto rito. È destinato ad aiutare i credenti che lo ricevono, ma anche senza aver ricevuto questo sacramento, ogni anima può vivere gli ultimi istanti nella luce.
